Rabbits have become a popular choice as house pets. They are intelligent, cute, and active animals that are best to keep at your home. Owning a pet rabbit is a matter of great fun as they are extremely social and playful thus developing a bond with humans quickly.

You will enjoy watching them cuddling, playing, and doing other interesting activities. However, pet rabbits come in a variety of breeds, sizes, and colors. These are special and sensitive pets that require great care and attention to lead a healthy and safe life. You need to take special care of their feeding, health, comfort, handling, grooming, and other aspects. Let’s have a look at caring for rabbits tips!

Rabbit Housing

You must house the rabbits indoors by keeping in view their comfort zone. They may run away if you keep them outside. There must be a 5 to 6 feet long hut or cage in which the rabbits can play and hop around with ease. You can also get a wooden house for rabbits that can be kept in a fenced area of your garden. Here, the rabbits can live in natural surroundings.

Whatever accommodation you choose for rabbits, make sure it is wider, strong, and away from direct sunlight, and rain. In winters, the rabbits need warm places and extra bedding to avoid the winter effects. Your rabbit house must be equipped with a water pot, food dishes, and cardboard toys.

Rabbit Diet

The rabbit digestive system is unusual. However, the food for rabbits must be chosen with care. They love to eat fresh hay that can be grass hay, timothy hay, orchard grass, and oat hay. Make sure that the hay you provide to the rabbits is clean and fresh.

You can also supplement hay for rabbits with pellets that are rich in fiber, and fresh vegetables. The rabbits also love to have fresh green vegetables such as carrot tops, herbs, lettuce, and more. Also, your rabbit must be hydrated by taking a good amount of clean water.

Rabbit Grooming

Rabbit grooming is essential in order to maintain their health as well as yours. To keep them clean, wash them thrice a week. Importantly, cut their nails, remove the mat and brush them to trim excessive fur.

There are special types of brushes available to trim rabbit hair with ease. However, your pet rabbits must be groomed with great care without hurting them. Grooming the rabbits also include eye cleaning, ear cleaning, and feet cleaning.

Veterinary Care

All the pet animals require special care and attention especially the rabbits. You must take great care of your rabbit eating, sleeping, and playing habits to ensure that they are healthy. However, if you find anything unusual, take them to the vet as soon as possible as the rabbits are highly sensitive pets.

Sometimes, these animals have some hidden infections or diseases that must be cured timely. Even if your rabbit is visibly fit and active, regular checkups from a vet are essential.
