Training doesn’t just mean teaching your pet different tricks or exercises. It is the way to teach him and make him understand the things that are good and those that are not so that both of you can have a better coexistence. All dogs have to know how to behave in every situation, both at home and on the street, as well as with other people or animals.

Basics Of How To Train A Golden Retriever

Whenever you want to teach your pet something new you have to follow 3 key points to do it correctly. This will serve both for the simplest teachings from a puppy and for the more complicated orders as an adult. Although a lot of different methods could be described, there are some that we must keep in mind at all times:

Reward Good Behaviors Or Successes

You should always praise and reward the animal when it does something well. This can be responding to a specific order or simply relieving themselves on the street. The rewards range from small snacks to the best caresses and words towards him.

Eliminate Rewards For Negative Behaviors

Just as we will always reward good, we will never reward bad behavior. Avoiding misbehavior is not achieved by scolding, simply ignoring the animal. If doing something wrong manages to capture your attention, be it positive or negative, he will realize that by doing that you pay attention to him.

Patience And Perseverance

It is very important to be firm and never contradict training. You can’t reward him jumping on you to say hello one day and scold him for it another day. By doing this the dog will never understand what is right: to jump or not to jump. In addition, patience is essential in the education of an animal, always adapting to its rhythm to learn.

Recommendations In The Training Of The Golden Retriever

If we want to know how to train a golden retriever we must take into account some techniques or recommendations to make an effective and positive training:

Get Your Golden Retriever’S Attention

Training will only be effective if the dog is attentive to you and is calm and relaxed. Never altered.

Choose A Short And Simple Word

Choose a short and simple word that always corresponds to the same order. The word should be said in a high and clear tone.

Help Him Understand The Order

For example, if you want him to give you his paw, say the word and take the paw. At that very moment reward him with a snack and caresses.

Repeat The Same Order

Repeat the same order leaving a 2-minute break in between. Always insist on the word you have chosen so that your golden retriever will understand and remember it.

Short Sessions

If we try training for too long and without breaks, the dog will get bored and lose concentration, as well as enthusiasm. You can train a golden retriever in sessions of about 5 minutes and 3 to 5 times a day.

Be Positive

Training moments should always be fun and positive. You should never practice training in a time of stress or in a negative mood. Animals capture our energy and are able to detect our mood.

Respectful Training

There is no use scolding your dog when he is not behaving well or does not perform a specific exercise. By doing this, you will not only prevent them from learning, but you will also cause the golden retriever to not be enthusiastic about the next training sessions. Also worsening your bond.
