Pet Rescue Blog is an independent pet care publication for UK pet owners and adopters, run from London by our founder and editor, Mian Ahaal Chowdry (also known as Ahaan). This page explains who writes our content, how we research and check it, how we use AI tools, how we make money, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
What we cover
We write for people in the UK who own, foster or are thinking of adopting a pet. Our focus is dogs, cats, small pets and fish, with a particular interest in rescue and adoption.
We write to UK standards: UK law and regulations, UK charities and services, prices in pounds sterling, and British spelling. Where rules differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, we say so.
We have narrowed our focus over time. Older articles that fall outside it are being rewritten to this standard or removed.
Who writes our content
Every article carries the name of the person who wrote it. Each name links to an author page describing that person's background and experience with animals.
Our writers are:
- Mian Ahaal Chowdry, founder and editor
- Julia Henriques, writer
- Lestre Zapanta, writer, dog behaviour and training
- Sara Ochoa, writer
The editor reviews every article before it is published. Occasionally we publish pieces from outside specialists; how we handle those is explained under Contributions from specialists.
How we research
We build each article on primary sources and link to them within the text so you can check them yourself. We work from this order of preference:
- UK government and regulators, such as GOV.UK, the Veterinary Medicines Directorate and Defra
- Veterinary professional bodies, such as the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), RCVS Knowledge, the British Veterinary Association and BSAVA
- UK animal welfare charities, such as the RSPCA, PDSA, Dogs Trust, Battersea, Blue Cross and Cats Protection
- Peer-reviewed research published in recognised scientific journals
We do not use other blogs as the source for health, safety or legal facts. Where the evidence is limited or experts disagree, we say so plainly rather than presenting one view as settled.
Health and veterinary content
We do not currently have a veterinary surgeon reviewing our articles. Our health content is researched from the veterinary sources listed above and checked by our editor before publication.
These articles are written to help you understand what may be happening with your pet and when to get help. They are not a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Every health article tells you which signs mean you should contact a vet, and which need urgent or out-of-hours care.
When we appoint a veterinary reviewer registered with the RCVS, we will name them on this page and add a "Reviewed by" line, with a review date, to each article they check.
How we use AI tools
We use AI tools, including Perplexity and Claude, to help with research: finding and summarising sources, checking what questions readers ask, and organising notes before writing.
People stay responsible for everything we publish:
- Every fact, figure and claim is checked against its original source before publication.
- A named writer writes or rewrites each article, and our editor reviews it.
- We never publish AI output without human editing and fact-checking.
- We never list an AI tool as an author.
Product reviews and recommendations
When we review a product, we test it ourselves with our own pets wherever that is possible. Each review explains how the products were assessed, including whether they were tested hands-on or chosen from research, so you can judge the recommendation for yourself.
Brands cannot pay to be included in a review or to change a rating. If a brand sends us a free product, we say so in the review.
How we make money
Pet Rescue Blog is free to read. We cover our costs in two ways:
- Advertising. We show ads through Google AdSense. Advertisers do not choose, see or influence our content before it is published.
- Affiliate links. Some links to Amazon are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This does not change the price you pay. Articles that contain affiliate links say so near the top.
We do not accept payment for links, guest posts or positive coverage, and we do not publish sponsored content.
Contributions from specialists
We write and edit almost all of our content ourselves. From time to time, a subject specialist such as a trainer, behaviourist or rescue worker offers a piece based on their own work.
Before we publish a contributed piece, our editor checks it for accuracy, sources and relevance to UK readers, and edits it to the standards on this page. The contributor is named with a short biography. We do not accept payment for contributed pieces and we do not publish articles written to place links. To suggest a piece, email [email protected].
Updates and dates
We review and update our articles regularly, and sooner when a law, guideline or price changes. Articles on health, law and costs are checked at least once every 12 months.
Each article shows the date it was first published. We add a "Last updated" date only when we make a meaningful change, such as new information, corrected facts or a rewritten section. We do not change dates for spelling fixes, formatting or small edits.
Corrections
If you think we have got something wrong, email [email protected] with the article link and what you believe is incorrect. We aim to reply within five working days.
If we find a factual error, we correct the article and add a dated correction note at the end explaining what changed. We do not quietly rewrite mistakes.
Topics we don't cover
To keep our advice safe and focused, we do not publish:
- CBD, cannabis or hemp products for pets, or any other product that is not authorised for animal use in the UK
- Doses of prescription medicines, or home treatment for conditions that need a vet
- Content promoting the sale or breeding of dog types that are banned or restricted in the UK
- Topics unrelated to caring for pets
