Particularly cruel treatment of animals, such as by use of force, neglect or avoidable torments such as too long transport, is not only, but especially on the World Animal Day criticized by animal rights activists.

Normally, animal shelters, emergency shelters for animals or veterinary clinics organize open house events to celebrate this day. Visitors gain insights into active animal protection work and have the opportunity to support the numerous associations financially or through their participation.

In addition, World Animal Day is used to point out maladministration in dealing with animals. People are called upon not to close their eyes to cruelty to animals, but to campaign for their rights to animals.

The World Animal Day has been held every year since 1925 on the name day of Francis of Assisi. He was considered a particularly animal-loving and God-fearing monk. In his opinion, even the smallest worm was part of God’s creation and as such worthy of protection and respect.

Throughout his life, he preached to regard animals as equivalent to humans and formulated a God-given duty for man to protect the animals. This basic idea corresponds exactly to the goal of the animal rights activists on world animal protection day.

Animal protection is therefore intimately linked to the protection of our planet and in a wider spectrum, to the state in which we will leave the Earth for the next generations.

The central theme of this day, the animal condition gives rise to various events in the world. Numerous animal protection associations as well as the younger generations are mobilizing for the love of animals and the environment.
