Have you ever considered sharing a drink with your dog, whether you’re an adult or not?

Freshwater is clearly the best way to hydrate your dog, but what else can your dog drink? You will be surprised that the number of human drinks is a no-go.

The Puppies’ own happy hour has some safe options for dogs, but the bottom line is that water is really your dog’s best drink. If you occasionally want to sprinkle juice or sauce on water, that’s fine, but trust us. Your puppy can have an approved dog treat and enjoy it in the water just like drinking a drink.

As with any treatment, keep in mind that additional water calories and nutritional value should be included in the dog’s diet. If you plan to add liquids in addition to water to your puppy’s normal diet, it is important to consult your veterinarian to make sure the switch is balanced.

There are many different liquids that you can sometimes give to your four-legged friend. However, not all of these are nutritionally beneficial, so you need to keep that in mind.

What Dogs Can Drink Besides Water

Here are some liquids that you can sometimes share with your furry friends in small amounts without any further hassle. If in doubt, consult your veterinarian to see if it is suitable for your furry friend.

Coconut Water

Coconut water is rich in calcium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and many other essential nutrients that help boost the immune system. Consider giving your pet a small amount of coconut water. Make sure it is natural. We also offer coconut water powder specially made for dogs.

You can mix this powder with fresh water and enjoy it with your dog. A healthy alternative to water to keep your body hydrated.

Bone Broth

Bone broth is a completely safe drink for your dog to consume. The content of vitamins and minerals is quite high. As the name implies, this drink helps strengthen bones and joints. You can easily prepare bone soup for your pet at home.

However, you can buy it on the market if you don’t want to prepare it yourself. When buying something, make sure to look at the ingredients list. Onion-containing items should not be trusted because they are particularly harmful to dogs.

Fresh Fruit Juice

Juice purchased from the store is not very suitable for dogs as it may be high in sugar, artificial sweeteners, and coloring. However, for some fruits, freshly made fruit juice made directly from a small amount of fruit is not toxic to dogs (some fruits are toxic and should not be given to dogs).

Keep this in mind as some pulp and seeds can be toxic to dogs as well as apple seeds. It is advisable to squeeze the whole fruit and then remove the seeds before giving the dog a small amount of juice.

Milk

Dogs can sometimes enjoy a few tablespoons of cow’s milk. However, keep in mind that many puppies do not respond well to dairy products because most adult dogs are lactose intolerant.

Therefore, if you notice a furry friend’s gastrointestinal upset, vomiting, bloating, or diarrhea, you should avoid milk. Keep in mind that there is also a milk replacer that is safe for puppies when there is no mom.

Pedialyte

Pedialyte is electrolyte-rich water that helps furry friends quickly rehydrate. Make sure your furry friend drinks only the unflavored version of the product, and check with your vet for the correct dosage.

Moreover, there are some frequently asked questions answered below:

Gatorade

Can dogs drink Gatorade?

The answer is Yes, dogs can drink Gatorade. But with that said, there are some aspects to consider here.

  1. If your dog is vomiting and has transient diarrhea but has only a few episodes and looks fine otherwise, refrain from giving fluids. Something is wrong, and the dog’s digestive system is trying to eliminate these toxins from its body.
  2. One thing to keep in mind is that Gatorade contains good amounts of sugar and sodium. While it’s good to replenish lost fluids, there’s a caveat here. Keep in mind that the dog is smaller than us, which means the dog’s organs will be smaller than ours.

So, what can you do?

Gatorade, but only in small quantities. Instead of emptying the entire bottle, drink a few cups at a time.

Can dogs drink alcohol?

Absolutely not. A sip of beer, wine, or other alcohol on a dog isn’t cool, okay, or fun. Your dog’s kidneys and liver are not designed to filter (metabolize) alcohol through them! Wine, beer, and spirits are not the only ones that contain alcohol. You may be surprised to find that soy sauce, uncooked dough, and overcooked fruits are also common household criminals.

What are the most dangerous liquids for dogs?

Caffeine drink

Caffeine drinks such as coffee and tea are extremely dangerous to dogs. The effect of caffeine on dogs depends on the size, age, and health of the pet. However, it is toxic to dogs and should not be given to them under any circumstances. The symptoms of caffeine addiction are:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Gasping
  • Extreme thirst
  • Excessive urination
  • Increased body temperature
  • Restlessness
  • Mild to extreme hyperactivity
  • Shivering

If your dog shows any of these symptoms of caffeine addiction after ingesting a caffeine drink, take it to a veterinarian immediately.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for a way to liven things up for your dog, the drink options above will give him something to look forward to the next time he develops a strong thirst. When given sparingly, it’s a great way to keep your dog hydrated without getting bored.

However, as a general rule, if you fill the water bowl, your dog will be fine. It is never as easy to get bored as we are. This is good, at least up to the third hour of backyard fetch.
