CBD for Dogs and Cats – Is it Safe, and Should You Use It

Living with a pet means having a loyal friend at home with whom people can share a lot of things. Anyway, just as much as it is great and entertaining to have a pet at home, it is also very important to take care of them and make sure they are always safe.

Recently, we have heard about a natural ingredient called Cannabidiol, shortly “CBD” which derives from cannabis and is mostly found in hemp. It has already been estimated that its benefits are great to the human body. Therefore, people around the world are using CBD to treat a variety of conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety, acne, high blood pressure, and more.

You could try CBD for pets but when it comes to choosing the best CBD supplement for your pet, there are a few things you should consider. First, look at the ingredients and make sure they are all natural and safe for pets. Second, be certain that the manufacturer is reputable with quality control measures in place. Third, research dosage guidelines to ensure you’re giving your pet an appropriate amount of CBD. Finally, understand any potential side effects so that if they occur you can seek medical attention quickly.

Is CBD Safe for dogs and cats?

CBD is a natural compound and does not have a “high” effect. Therefore, it is not known to cause any damage or be a threat to the health of your home pets. CBD related products for humans are the same as those for pets and in most cases, it is considered safe to give it to your cats and dogs. But, you should still keep a few things in mind before deciding to give it to your pets.

  1. Find out about all the side effects
  2. Do not use the full bottle; use a smaller dose
  3. Talk to a veterinarian in advance

Let’s stop briefly at the dose because it is very important to mention that you should be aware of the dose you give to your pet. For humans, it is recommended to start with a smaller dose until you understand how the body is reacting.

Initially, make sure you start giving CBD at a small amount to your cats or dogs also, then watch out if your pet is having any bad effects because one of the biggest risks from CBD is overdosing. The latter is a common problem caused to pets although it can usually be cured without needing any medical help.

There is ongoing research about the potential of CBD pet products and how they could affect or cause damages to pets. At the same time, the sales of these products are going through the roof. Bear in mind that when buying CBD for your pets, you must check the origin of CBD, its price, and whether it is organic or not.

CBD benefits for dogs and cats

Although more research is needed regarding this issue, it has so far been estimated that the effect of CBD is similar in both humans and animals because they both have the so-called endocannabinoid system (ECS). Hence, benefits are almost the same as in humans, ie pain relief, anxiety relief, improving sleep issues, appetite, digestion, etc.

From CBD products, CBD oil is mostly recommended to use for pets. It can be used by mixing a few drops with their food or drinks. Not all CBD products are the same, but if you are using CBD oil that is obtained from hemp, you can give the same to your pet.

Side effects of CBD for dogs or cats

The side effects of CBD are minor if it is taken care of and in small doses. The same goes for both, humans and animals. However, according to studies, the use of CBD can sometimes be associated with some side effects.

CBD side effects in humans may include diarrhea, dizziness, changes in mood, nausea, etc. But what about animals? Side effects on animals are not different at all from those in humans. Some of them may include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Muscle control loss

Conclusion

There is still a lot of discussion about using CBD-related products and at the same time research on this interesting ingredient still continues. People’s personal experiences are different, but many of them say that CBD has already helped them overcome and treat various conditions. One thing we can say for sure is that as long as CBD is given to animals and taken from people at a normal dose, there is no danger at all.
