Creating Axolotl Habitat

To create the ultimate axolotl habitat, you’ll need a tank that’s at least 10 gallons, a canister filter, an aquarium heater, and smooth gravel or sand. You’ll also need to find a glass or acrylic tank that’s at least 12 inches tall so your axolotl can climb out and explore its surroundings.

Once you have all of your supplies, set up your tank by adding the gravel or sand first, followed by the canister filter and heater. Be sure to acclimate your axolotl to its new habitat by slowly adding it to the tank for over an hour. Lastly, once your axolotl is settled in, it’s important to maintain the water quality by doing regular water changes and keeping an eye on the temperature and pH levels.

Best Foods to Keep Your Axolotl Healthy and Happy

A healthy diet for an axolotl is mainly made up of live foods such as earthworms, insect larvae, and small fish. Some good vegetables for axolotls include lettuce, broccoli, and spinach. Algae can be fed to them in the form of Spirulina tablets or flakes.

It is important to dust the live food with calcium powder to help them grow strong bones and shells. A good diet for them will help them stay healthy and happy.

How to Choose the Right Axolotl for You

First, decide if you want a wild-type or a leucistic axolotl. Wild-type axolotls have a brown and black mottled appearance, while leucistic axolotls are mostly white with some black spots. Also, there is pink axolotl for sale that is available at some stores.

Next, consider the size of it. Adults can grow to be 12-18 inches long, so make sure you have enough room to accommodate a full-grown axolotl.

Finally, think about how much time you are willing to put into caring for your axolotl. They require daily care and weekly water changes, so be sure you are prepared to commit to caring for your new pet.
