Below is a brief description of the most commonly kept and easiest to keep parrots or conures or parakeets. They make great pets!

pink cockatoo

  • Latin name: Eolophus roseicapillus

The Rose Cockatoo is native to Australia. They are not found on the east and north coasts. The pink cockatoo has dark pink plumage. White-pink are the head, neck, and undercoverts. The back and wings are gray. The rump, coverts, rump, and tail feathers are white-grey. The eye-ring is pinkish-red and the iris of the Rose cockatoo is dark brown.

The legs are gray and the bill is horn colored. They grow to about 35cm. Their life expectancy in captivity is around 50 years. In terms of behavior, the pink cockatoos are very careful parrots. They have a very well-developed reaction time and intelligence. They can be very noisy at times. They are very active birds and need a large space to burn off their energy.

African grey parrot

  • Latin name: Psittacus erithacus

The Gray Parrot measures approximately 30cm from head to tail. The body is mainly gray and the head is a lighter gray. The plumes of the tail are bright red. The eyes are pale yellow. Among all parrots, the African Gray is usually considered the best talker.

Like most parrots, the Redstart needs a lot of distraction so that he won’t get bored. It is a parrot that needs a lot of attention. He can become jealous of other people and animals and then he can become really intolerant.

  • Latin name: Agapornis

Most common subspecies: Agapornis fischeri, Agapornis personata and Agapornis roseicolli. The lovebird is about 15cm tall. The color varies according to the subspecies. However, there are also many color mutations.

In this species, there is no external difference between the two sexes. In nature, they usually live in groups of 20 to 30 birds, in southwestern Africa. Their life expectancy is around 15 years. They are sweet little parrots that can become very tame but can hardly speak.

  • Latin name: Nymhicus hollandicus

The cockatiel is the cockatoo’s little brother and is also native to Australia. They are usually colored gray with white spots on the wings, a yellow head with a yellow crest, and orange ear spots. Nowadays many other color mutations are also possible.

They almost never speak. The budgerigar is originally Australian. Although they are quite small birds, they still need a sufficiently spacious cage with plenty of climbing opportunities and toys.
